Vlad Pascu, the man who killed two young people in 2 Mai, while being drugged behind the wheel, was sentenced on Friday to 10 years in prison by the Mangalia Court. The decision is not final.
The father of Roberta, the young woman killed in the car crash, told Antena 3 that the sentence is too low and „such a thing cannot be” and that a fair sentence, in his view, would have been „at least the age of one of the two children, that is 20 or 22 years”.
Vlad Pascu is on trial on charges of manslaughter, causing culpable bodily harm, driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or other substances and leaving the scene of an accident.
Pascu drove the car while high on drugs, according to the prosecutors’ indictment, and the deaths of the two young people were extremely violent. The accident happened at the entrance to the town of 2 Mai when Pascu crashed his car into a group of people who were traveling on the side of the road. Two young people, aged 20 and 21, died and three others were injured.
Pascu has been in custody since August 20, 2023. Vlad Pascu had also requested to replace his remand in custody with a milder preventive measure, but the court rejected his request.
Following this event, several police officers lost their jobs because of the way they acted in the hours before the road accident, including the former head of the Constanta IPJ, Adrian Glugă. Also after the tragedy, Interior Minister Cătălin Predoiu announced a reorganization of the Constanța County Police.
„Prosecutor Niț”
Pascu is also being prosecuted by DIICOT prosecutors, along with his parents, for drug trafficking, inducing a person to give false statements or not to present evidence and making a home available for drug use. This case will be tried before the Bucharest Tribunal.
Regarding the attempts by Pascu’s mother to influence the investigation, G4Media revealed that a month and a half after the stenograms of the May 2 tragedy appeared in the press, neither the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) nor the Judicial Inspectorate (IJ) were checking the identity of „prosecutor Niț”, who appears in the DIICOT file of Vlad Pascu. Nor did DIICOT, in whose stenograms the prosecutor’s name appears, have disjoined the case.
In the transcripts of the DIICOT prosecutors, published in the media on September 18 and found in the DIICOT indictment sent to trial in early October, the name of a prosecutor „Niț” is mentioned, to whom the lawyer of the Pascu family allegedly called and whom he mentions in a conversation with Miruna Pascu, the mother of the young man who caused the accident under the influence of drugs and who is in pre-trial detention for allegedly trying to influence witnesses in the case.
The prosecutor was mentioned in the context in which the lawyer of the Pascu family (with whom Miruna Pascu frequently consulted on legal matters according to DIICOT) was trying to help her in the situation of the pre-trial detention of her son, Vlad Pascu. Details on Info Sud-Est.
