George Simion, the extremist AUR party’s candidate in the May presidential elections, has shifted to traditional electoral promotion and is sending personalized letters aimed at elderly people across the country. According to the latest report by Expert Forum, George Simion is no longer leading in online advertisements on Meta and Google.
An ISE / G4Media reader received such a letter in their mailbox at their residence in Constanța. It was addressed to the elderly person who lives at that address.”
The letter is also specifically addressed to the senior resident with „Dear (person’s name)”, followed by an introduction in which the extremist party candidate expresses „gratitude and respect towards Romania’s seniors.”
On the back of the letter is the financial agent code for the Alliance for the Union of Romanians, as well as the company’s details, and a note stating that the company printed the letters in a run of over 1 million copies
The letter also mentions how the current system chooses to „ignore” the elderly instead of protecting them, and how they are „a treasure” who built a „country without debts.” He repeatedly attacks the way the current leadership treats elderly people in Romania, where he also mentions pensions, a sensitive topic in public debate, often used in electoral campaigns:
- „A country that does not respect its elders has no future. They promised you, but they did not keep their word. They used you, but they did not listen to you. They forgot you. I will not. I do not make promises. You are tired of words. But I make a covenant, one as a son of this country, before you, those who were its foundation: I will respect you and I will protect you! I will fight for your rights, for your dignity, for your pensions that have been ignored and cut.”
The letter also talks about the AUR Medical Caravan, where it mentions how that project was made specifically for the elderly, „those who need care.”
- „Today, I ask you to trust me, a simple but determined Romanian. In a true Romanian who has never been and will never be part of the system that has humiliated you for 35 years. I am George Simion, and I am running for the Presidency of Romania because you, those who raised us, protected us, and taught us, should finally be respected. I carry gratitude and love for you, today and always”, the letter concludes.
G4Media exclusively revealed at the beginning of April how George Simion had completely changed his promotion strategy compared to the November 2024 campaign. Because the money invested in online ads did not bring the desired success to the extremist party’s candidate, Simion has reportedly abandoned the aggressive promotion of the AUR brand and is focusing this campaign on women, students, pensioners, and residents of major cities.
According to G4Media’s information, AUR will no longer organize electoral rallies during the campaign, an aspect that brought the party its current popularity. Instead of the yellow vests and T-shirts, the „AUR” style, the party is using simple T-shirts with the slogan „Respect for Democracy.”
Party activists will distribute letters and flowers to elderly women in major cities.
Expert Forum analyzed the presidential candidates’ online spending between April 5-17, excluding TikTok. According to the analysis, George Simion is last in Meta spending in the first two weeks of the electoral campaign. In the campaign for the November 2024 elections, George Simion had pumped the most money into Meta ads.”
